Mobile Home & Manufactured Home Siding Calculator
Built for the real dimensions of mobile homes: single-wide 14–18′, double-wide 28–32′, low-slope gambrel roofs, and the thinner vinyl cladding that HUD-rated homes use. One-click presets or custom dimensions.
Thinner gauge (0.040–0.042″) than residential vinyl, designed for mobile home wall depth. Easier to handle on narrow lots.
Live Wall Area Summary
Mobile home siding is thinner and cheaper than residential siding — but it does cover more per carton (less cutting). Run the same wall dimensions through the main siding calculator with standard vinyl preset to see the real coverage difference, and check out the vinyl siding page for residential-grade comparison numbers.
Why Mobile Home Siding Math Is Different From Site-Built
The mobile home calculator exists because every number you assume from residential siding needs adjustment. Here's exactly where the differences come from.
Standardized wall height (no variation)
Mobile home eaves are always 8 ft from grade. Site-built homes vary 8–10 ft, and second stories add more wall area.
Low-slope gambrel roofs = simpler gables
Most mobile homes use a 2/12 or 3/12 pitch gambrel — two gentle slopes, not a steep gable. Gable area is smaller per width.
No bump-outs, bay windows, or porches
Mobile home walls are perfectly rectangular. No cutting waste around bay windows or bump-out corners. This is why mobile home waste is lower (8% vs 10–15% residential).
Thinner wall cavity = thinner siding profile
Mobile homes have 2×4 framing on 16″ centers with limited cavity depth. Thinner Dutch lap profiles (4″ exposure) are standard; wider residential profiles (5–6″) may not fit.
Center seam on double-wides
Double-wides have a visible seam down the middle where the two homes join — this adds 3–4 ft of vertical siding strip that most estimators forget.
No foundation transitions
Site-built homes have stem walls or foundations with siding transitions. Mobile homes sit on skirting — a separate calculation area.
Mobile home wall area = perimeter × eave height + both gables. A 30×76 double-wide: perimeter = 212 ft × 8 ft = 1,696 sq ft. Add two gables (2 × 15 ft base × 5.5 ft rise ÷ 2 = 82.5 sq ft each × 2 = 165) → 1,861 sq ft. Deduct standard openings (door + 3 windows) → 1,776 sq ft net.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) regulates mobile home structural load limits. At 3 lbs/sq ft max for exterior cladding, vinyl is the only material that comfortably fits. Steel (4.5 lbs/sq ft) and cement (14 lbs/sq ft) both exceed HUD's allowance without a structural engineer sign-off.
Double-wide and triple-wide mobile homes have a visible vertical seam where two units join down the middle of the home. Most estimators forget to add extra siding here — you need a 3–4 ft tall vertical strip running the full eave-to-ridge height, typically cut from a wider panel. Order one extra carton to cover this.
Frequently Asked Mobile Home Siding Questions
How much siding do I need for a single wide mobile home?▼
A typical 16′ × 72′ single-wide with 8′ eaves needs about 1,100–1,200 sq ft net. Add 8% waste → ~1,200–1,300 sq ft or 7 cartons.
How much siding do I need for a double wide mobile home?▼
A typical 30′ × 76′ double-wide with 8′ eaves needs about 2,200–2,400 sq ft net. Add 8% waste → ~2,400–2,600 sq ft or 12–13 cartons.
Mobile home siding vs regular house siding — same product?▼
Similar profiles but mobile home vinyl is thinner gauge (0.040–0.042″ vs 0.044–0.048″). Coverage per carton is identical; only the wall cavity fitting differs.
Mobile home siding waste factor?▼
8–10%. Mobile homes have simpler rectangular walls with no bump-outs, porches, or complex rooflines. Site-built homes typically need 10–15% waste.
Can I install Hardie or fiber cement on a mobile home?▼
Not recommended. Fiber cement at 14–16 lbs/sq ft is 5–6× heavier than vinyl at 2–3 lbs/sq ft. Mobile home frames aren't engineered for this load — you'd need a structural engineer and could risk voiding your title insurance.
Mobile home siding cost per square foot?▼
Mobile home vinyl siding installed costs $2.50–$4.50/sq ft total (material $1.25–$2.00 + labor $1.50–$2.50). This is 30–40% cheaper than residential vinyl which runs $4–$7/sq ft installed.
